Urad dal (Skinned Black Gram)

Ingredients:
1 cup Urad dal
1 medium Tomato (chopped)
1 medium Onion (chopped)
3 to 4 cloves Garlic (chopped or ground)
3 tbsp Oil
1 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
2 tbsp Chili powder
1 tsp Turmeric powder
Handful Curry leaves
Handful Freshly chopped coriander
a pinch of Asafoetida
3 cups Water
Salt to taste
Method:
Pressure cook urad dal with turmeric and salt
Heat oil in a deep wok (kadai), add asafoetida, cumin and let it splutter
Add curry leaves, garlic, onions and saute. Cook till onions turn translucent
Add tomatoes and cook till soft
Add chili powder, boiled dal and mix well. Add more water if you think it is too thick. Adjust salt if need be.
Add coriander and serve hot with rice or chapati
